Calculate swimming pool gallons

Calculate swimming pool gallons

Are you asking yourself, “How do I figure out how many gallons are in my swimming pool?”

This is an easy one and I have 2 answers. One requires more sweat equity than the other one. I will give you both answers and you can decide which one you want to use. There are simple calculations for figuring out rectangular and circular pools.

Rectangular pool:

Length x width x average depth x 7.5 (number of gallons in a cubic foot) = pool gallons

Circular pool:

3.14 x radius squared x average depth x 7.5 (number of gallons in a cubic foot) = pool gallons

For those of you, like me, who have forgotten everything we learned in math class here is the calculation for average depth:
Shallow end depth + deep end depth / 2 = average depth

“It is imperative that you know how many gallons of water you have in your swimming pool, because without this knowledge, it is impossible to properly balance your pool water.”

You will notice on the left side of the page there are some handy-dandy calculators. Simply put in the dimensions of your pool and your pool volume will magically appear! I tried to make it easy for you.

You do have water in your mechanical system and plumbing that runs underground, but these formulas will get you really close. It is imperative that you know how many gallons of water you have in your swimming pool, because without this knowledge, it is impossible to properly balance your pool water.

Figure out how many gallons of water you have in your swimming pool and write that number down somewhere so you don’t forget it. You will use it every time you need to balance your pool water. Guess-work is for the weather man. Let’s math the mess out of your pool to make sure it is ready to swim all season long!
